Enquiry
Further to Bid Enquiry No. 30, PERF 2272, Section 2272.04.01.01 (replaced by Addendum No. 2) indicates that “The pavement design for the work shall include the removal, or full depth reclamation of the existing pavement layers from the surface to a minimum depth of 50 mm into the underlying unbound granular layer…”. Upon detailed consideration, this requirement can be interpreted as requiring the removal / replacement of a minimum of 50 mm underlying granular base for a pavement strategy which involves full depth removal of the hot mix surface. Can the Ministry clarify that the reference to underlying unbound granular material is only relevant for reclamation options?

Response
The Ministry can confirm that PERF 2272, Section 2272.04.01.01 (replaced by Addendum No. 2) for the statement “The pavement design for the work shall include the removal, or full depth reclamation of the existing pavement layers from the surface to a minimum depth of 50 mm into the underlying unbound granular layer…” the reference to underlying unbound granular material is only referring to reclamation options.
