Enquiry
Under addendum #4 additional borehole logs were provided. The foundations soil data provided for CR 34 is based entirely on boreholes drilled on or immediately adjacent to the existing road embankment. The MTO Guideline for Foundation Engineering Services, when referencing swamp crossings, requires boreholes at 25m intervals along centreline and, at intermediate stations, boreholes at the toe of the new embankment, with the boreholes advanced 3m into competent soil. The soils information provided is sufficient for preliminary design but not for detail design. Will the Ministry confirm that we can rely on the soils information provided as being representative of the soil and groundwater conditions across the entire area of the CR 34 approach embankments?

Response
The soil information can be relied on at the location of the boreholes. Design builder shall undertake investigation as needed to confirm soil and groundwater conditions beyond the borehole locations.
