Revised Equivalent Minimum "K" Factor - Addendum #04

We have received the revised requirements of Addendum #04. Based on our design analysis of these revisions, we note that the revised Equivalent Minimum "K" factor of 120 at the CPR Bridge causes the proposed design to conflict with other structures west of the CPR Bridge (culvert and overpass at First Line). Based on our current design (prior to Addenda #04), we are able to provide a "K" factor of 80, which is an increase from present conditions (K factor of 70) and complete the design within the defined project limits. Please confirm this enquiry has been received and provide direction accordingly. The estimate quantities will be significantly impacted by this latest addendum and we are unable to determine the impact on the adjacent structures now involved. We recommend that MTO revise this requirement to an Equivalent Minimum "K" Factor of 80 which will allow the work to be completed within the current Project limits and close on time.

Per Footnote 1 at the top of page 2 of the revised Design Criteria provided in Addendum 4, the existing vertical alignment parameters shall be retained with no reduction in K-values permitted relative to existing conditions. The existing K value for Highway 401 at the CPR crossing is 86.5 which shall be maintained per the Preliminary Design profile.
