Vertical Clearance at CPR

Section 2.4.1.2 of the RFP states that “At the CPR site, a minimum vertical clearance of 7.01 m is required from the top of the rail to the soffit” Section 2.4.8.2 of the RFP, for CPR structure, it is stated that “vertical clearances shall satisfy the requirements of the Geometric Design Standards for Ontario Highways …” In the GDSOH Section C4.4 page C-4-10 it states that “minimum vertical clearance over railways is 7.2 m measured from the base of the rail” Please clarify if the vertical clearance shall be 7.01m measured from the top of the rail or 7.2m measured from the base of the rail. If it is the latter, could the Ministry please provide the elevation of the base of the rail at the point of minimum clearance for the CPR structure.

Both minimum vertical clearances shall be met – i.e. 7.01m measured from the top of the rail per Transport Canada requirements and 7.2m measured from the base of the rail per the GDSOH. Top and bottom topo shots for the existing railway track within the Ministry’s ROW were included in Document #3 of the RFP provided in Appendix C. The DTM includes the bottom of rail shots only.
