Subject
Jacking of Superstructure
Enquiry
Please clarify the following: a) What is a reason of bridge jacking if a new bridge is to be built? b) On sheet 37 it says that after bearings and structural steel are installed "jack piers upwards by 250 mm", and after precast pales are installed "jack piers downwards by 250 mm". Is not 250 mm jacking upwards and downwards going to break structural steel and concrete panels? And what is going to happen with abutments if we jack piers upwards 250 mm? c) Are the existing abutments footings capable of carrying jacking loads indicated on the drawings?
