Buttonville Airport Constraints
Enquiry
The Obstacle Limitation Surfaces contours and various other documents referenced on page 53 of the tender documents clearly indicate that any operation of equipment 5.0m above the Hwy 404 road surface will impact the Buttonville Airport operations. Of particular concern will be any operation requiring use of a crane. In contacting the airport directly, we’ve been advised by the Buttonville Airport that approval will be required to encroach on the limits and that a minimum charge of $30,000 per occurrence will be required. We are also advised that the airport is operational 24 hours, 7 days a week, and that upon 15 minutes notice we may be required to clear the envelope. While operations such as beam erection or hoisting for formwork can be limited, operations such as roadway protection or H-piles are a continuous operation that will require a fairly long duration and will require the runway to be closed for an extended duration (there are 6,434m of H-piles on the 16th Avenue structure). We anticipate that closing the runway for 2 weeks or more per stage and for someone paying the minimum charge of $30,000 per occurrence for closing the airport will not be acceptable. Please advise on the following two questions. 1. Who is responsible for any fees or charges associated with closing the airport. 2. What closure times and duration should we anticipate in preparing an estimate for the work.
